The Start
Enthalpy was founded after a pattern the partners saw too often on projects:
performance was treated as a checkbox at the end, instead of a thread that runs
from concept through operations. They had each spent years in larger organizations,
leading work where they could see how much better buildings could be when engineers
were close to owners, contractors and operators the whole way through.
Eventually, the question became simple: what if we built a firm that worked that way by design? Enthalpy was established as an independent, partner-led practice so decisions could be made with long-term building performance in mind, not just short-term project milestones. The partners brought different strengths — energy and sustainability, building performance, project delivery, design and contract administration — but shared one belief: engineering should help create resilient, efficient and comfortable buildings that people actually enjoy using.

across projects in Canada and the United States. Those perspectives shape how we
approach every assignment — balancing what owners value, what contractors can build,
and what operators need long after turnover.
Why “Enthalpy”
In thermodynamics, enthalpy is a measure of total energy — a reminder that comfort,
efficiency and performance are all connected, not separate goals. The name Enthalpy
reflects how we think about buildings: as systems where design decisions, energy use
and occupant experience are tightly linked. It’s a small technical word that keeps us
focused on what our work ultimately impacts: how a building feels, performs and endures
over time.
